10 tips to get out of a running slump

It happens to the best of us. No matter what the activity, and no matter how much you love it, it can become routine, boring or even like a chore.

Do you any of these describe you and running right now? Check out these tips from the Huffington Post to say goodbye to your running slump.

1. Find a change of scenery.

This can be easier said than done, especially when you have a larger-than-life busy schedule. Even if you can’t drive 20 miles to explore a new Greenway, you can still switch up your routine. Try running in an area around your office or running into a park that is on your route home. If you’re strictly a morning runner, try running down a new collection of roads or even in a different neighborhood.

2. Run with a friend.

Running with a friend is a great way to liven up your routine. Chatting while running can make time go faster, especially if you usually run alone.

3. Run solo.

If you usually run with friends, try running solo instead. Getting away from the routine is a huge part of getting out of a slump. Running alone will also give you a chance to think and get away from the busyness of life.

4. Leave the watch at home.

It gets so easy for runners to get fixated on our pace. And when we don’t meet the paces or constantly feel like we are racing the watch and pushing too hard all the time, running can become a chore. Even if it’s only for one run a week, leave the watch at home and run just to run! Doing this will make your once-loved hobby more enjoyable.

5. Sign up for a race

Working towards a goal is motivating. It’s as simple as that! Running a new race is once again a great way to stray from the monotony. And it’s even better when the race is a destination race — a new location — which will really get you excited to get out the door and running for your upcoming adventure in a new city.
