Since 2009, the country’s foremost running organizations have worked together to celebrate running with thousands of participants on the first Wednesday of June. This year, National Running Day will take place on June 3rd. Grab your running shoes, Swiftwick socks and find an event near you!
New York City takes the cake (or fruit, if we’re being healthy) for celebrating Running Day the hardest by hosting several events for runners. To kick off the day, NYRR will host a breakfast to meet local runners and gain some training tips before or after your morning run. NYRR will also set up water stations in Central Park, Clove Lakes Park, Van Cortlandt Park, Prospect Park, and St. Mary’s Park. All of these stations will be open from 6 AM- 6 PM.For our older crowd, NYRR will host a senior walk starting at 10am and 11am and will include a coach-led 45-minute tour of the island. After your run, stop by Windmuller Park for a free, 45-minute cross-training workout,
Los Angeles goes back in time this Running Day with an 80’s themed group run hosted by Fleet Feet Burbank. Groovy runners will take on 3 miles and will leave Fleet Feet Burbank at 6:30 PM.
In San Antonio, Texas, Soler’s Sports will host a 3-6 mile destination run. Have your running/walking gait analyzed by professionals, and stick around for the food trucks and raffles!
In Glendale, Arizona, Sole Sports Running Zone will host a free 5k, 10k, and trail run for all runners, walkers, kids and dogs. This event will also feature free Michelob Ultra beer! These events start at 6:00 PM.
Fleet Feet Columbia will host a fun run in Irmo, South Carolina, with free beer, pizza, and raffle prizes! Raffle prizes will include complimentary entries for the 2016 Rock ‘n’ Roll Raleigh Marathon & 1/2 Marathon.
In Tulsa, Oklahoma, Tulsa Runner, a local running store, will host a group run at 6:00 PM, along with offering free water to runners all day- even after the store is closed! Check outside the store for a cooler with refreshing beverages. You can also enter a drawing to win prizes.
Meridian, Idaho is taking advantage of all 24 hours of National Running Day in an unique way. At FitOne’s 24-hour event, you can reserve 30 or more minutes on a treadmill or stationary bike from 12:01 AM to 11:59 PM. The event will also include free fitness classes and hourly prize drawings. The goal of this event is to help community members “pledge to be healthy.”
