You like the outdoors. You enjoy leaving the hustle and bustle of the big city and heading out into nature. Though, like many others, you probably like to find somewhere new to work your muscles. Good thing the United States has a lot of places where you can do just that.
Before taking off into some of the most beautiful spots in this country, there are a few things that are essential to making any trip into nature a success.
1. Map & Compass
Any navigational system helps you find out where you need to go and how far it is to get there. Make sure you have a classic map & compass handy because technology can fail unexpectedly.
2. Extra Water and Food
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Water is necessary for the human body to perform its many functions. Without an adequate water supply, your body becomes more susceptible to illness and causes muscles and organs to not perform to their maximum ability. Having some kind of snack on hand in case of emergency is never a bad thing either!
3. Extra Clothing / Rain Gear
Weathermen, despite seeming like they know what they’re talking about, usually are not always right. Make sure you pack extra clothing and a rain jacket and hat just in case of a sudden downpour.
4. Safety Items
Starting a fire can help prevent hypothermia if you’re out and about and the temperature drops. If you’re lost, the fire can also signal for help, as can a whistle. Even if you don’t plan to be out after dark, always make sure you have a source of light on you just in case.
5. First Aid Kit
Always make sure that you have a first aid kit on hand just in case of emergency. Including a small knife or multi-tool within the kit can also come in handy in case you need to make any repairs along the way.
6. Proper Footwear
This may seem obvious, but it cannot be said enough: what you put on your feet is probably one of the most important parts of making an outdoor adventure a success. Be sure to have the right hiking shoes, as well as a pair of Swiftwick socks! With Swiftwicks, your feet will never get blisters, the managed compression system helps you perform stronger, and our special odor fighting technology will prevent whoever does the laundry from passing out from the stench!
