New sports proposed for 2020 Olympics

Today Japanese officials announced their recommendations for new sports to bring to the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. They recommended five new sports and 18 new events, including baseball, softball, karate, sports climbing, surfing and skateboarding.

Under the “Olympic Agenda 2020” program adopted by the IOC last December, host cities are allowed to propose one or more additional sports for their games. The International Olympic Committee will decide in August of 2016 which events and sports (if any) make the cut.
