5 reasons why the Chicago Marathon rocks

By October 7, 2015Run

The Chicago Marathon is one of the biggest, most prestigious, fastest growing marathons in the country. Runners from every state and over 100 countries will be traveling to the Windy City this weekend to reach the finish line in Grant Park.

The race is limited to only 45,000 top-of-the-line runners, and frankly, it rocks to be a part of it.

Here are Competitor‘s top five reasons why this race is awesome.

  1. It’s flat!
Hill haters, rejoice. This course is known as fast and flat for a reason! The only minor inclines in this race happen as you run on bridges across the Chicago River and a slight incline at the end.

  2. Crowd support
The crowds at this race are off the charts. It’s great to know there are so many people cheering you on all the way to the finish line, and of course, reading signs is a great way to keep yourself entertained and distracted.

  3. It’s a World Marathon Major
While you’re going out to dominate your own race, some of the world’s best runners will be out there on the same course. The World Marathon Majors takes seven of the most high-profile marathons in the world (including Chicago) and offers huge prize money, so the Chicago Marathon always attracts some of the world’s best.

  4. Take a race-cation in Chicago
Location, location, location! You can make a weekend of your trip to Chicago with some great tourist attractions and sights.

  5. Deep dish pizza
Perhaps better saved for a post-race treat, than pre-race carb loading, the chewy crust and generous toppings on this Chicago standard will definitely top off your glycogen stores!
