Running has incredible amounts of benefits, but sometimes it can become quite wearisome, especially if you are stuck on a treadmill staring at your living room wall. It only makes sense to have a little bit of fun while you run!
Here are some of the most unique fun runs we could find from around the globe:
North American Wife-Carrying ChampionshipsPhoto courtesy of Sunday River Resort
This race is better suited to strong sprinters than emaciated marathoners. An event with Finnish roots, wife-carrying entails a man carrying a woman over a short obstacle course.
At this event at the Sunday River ski resort, the 278-yard obstacle course features log hurdles, sand traps, and the “widow maker” water hazard. How the “wife” (teams don’t have to be married) is carried is the competitors’ choice, though most use the “Estonian carry,” where the female participant holds the male around the waist and tightens her legs around his neck, thereby freeing his hands.
The Empire State Building Run-Up
Your calves will not thank you for this one. This run takes place in one of the most famous buildings in New York City (awesome), and you travel up its whopping 1,576 stairs (sorry, what?). The fastest runners have scaled the flights of stairs in under 10 minutes, but if you don’t feel like going that fast you could always beat them with the 1-minute elevator ride to the top. This race is scheduled for February 3, 2016.

Running and bacon are two of the best things on the planet, and it’s so sad that they usually don’t and can’t go together. A genius (or an evil mastermind) must have been thinking the same thing when bacon races were created. At bacon-themed races such as the Race for the Bacon 5K and the Great American Bacon Race, the bacon is served hot and fresh at aid stations for racers.
Marathon Du Medoc
Located in Medoc, France, this race is an annual festival of running, wine and costumes. Racers attempt to complete 26 miles while drinking 23 glasses of wine and partaking in various local, specialty foods along the way, all while dressed in some kind of bizarre costume. Dubbed “the longest marathon in the world,” the race has a time limit of six hours and 30 minutes and is held every year in September.

If blacklights, loud music and foam are your thing, then the Foam Glow 5K is for you! Runners start out with a white t-shirt, participants run through a different color foam at every zone. Afterwards, runners celebrate with an after party with music and you guessed it- more foam. Not only is this race crazy fun, but it’s also for a good cause. This race helps raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer.
What’s the craziest, most fun race you’ve ever participated in?
