5 things successful runners never do

By October 1, 2015Run

Runners often talk about the things they do that lead to success. But what about the things they don’t do that brings them to the podium? These things can be just as important as remembering to stretch.

Here is Run Haven‘s list of don’ts when it comes to running:

1. Compare yourself to others.

This is so much easier said than done, and athletes have it rough. There’s always someone out there who’s faster, stronger, or “more talented.” But at the end of the day, if you run slow, who cares?

2. Skip rest days.

Without rest, not only are you denying your body time to adapt to the stress it’s under, but also you are sure to start your next workout under-fueled, exhausted, or possibly fighting off illness or injury. Rest is needed to repair, rebuild and restrengthen

3. Dwell on the bad runs.

If all days were good days, you’d never know when you were having a good one. The same concept applies to your runs. Not every run is going to be a fast, PR-breaking, motivated one. And you can’t expect them to be!

* Run in cotton socks.

Unless you want your feet to be sweaty, smelly, swollen, and blister-y.
