Ruben Sança is a Cabo Verdean long distance runner who specializes in the marathon. He attended and ran for University of Massachusetts Lowell as an All-American in the 5,000 meters, 10,000 meters and Cross Country. Currently he runs for the Whirlaway Racing Team based in northern Massachusetts. As a member of WRT, Ruben competes on local USATF-New England Grand Prix Series year-round and was crowned the overall series champion in 2014. He has posted 16 consecutive Top 5 finishes in races ranging from 5k to half marathon
On the international scene, Ruben represented Cabo Verde at the IAAF World Championship (Marathon) and at the 2012 Olympic Games (5,000m) and just missed qualifying for the 2016 Games by 5 seconds in the marathon. He holds several the Cabo Verdean national records, including the marathon (2:18:47). He has twice finished in the Top 25 at the Boston Marathon. As he continues to learn about the marathon, Ruben’s short term goal is qualify for the IAAF World Championship being held in the United Kingdom in 2017. His long term goal is to run under 2:15 marathon.
Ruben also works full time an Associate Director in Student Affairs at his alma mater. He is a personal coach and also a motivational speaker at several high school sports camps. What he enjoys the most about Swiftwick socks is the ability to use them as recovery for his calves and preventing blisters on his long marathon workouts.
